How it works

Digits are grouped and named: international uses thousand/million/billion; Indian uses thousand/lakh/crore.
International groups digits in threes; the Indian system groups the last three, then in twos.
Works for whole numbers; negative numbers are prefixed with "minus".

What is the difference between the two systems?

International uses million and billion; the Indian system uses lakh (1,00,000) and crore (1,00,00,000).

Does it handle decimals or paise?

It converts whole numbers. For currency, convert the rupees and add paise separately.

Can it do negative numbers?

Yes, negatives are read as "minus" followed by the number in words.
